Milagro are traditional Mexican eateries inspired by the great Mexico City cantinas of the golden era. Founded by Mexico City-born brothers Arturo and Andrés Anhalt, Milagro on Mercer opened in Toronto's entertainment district in July of 2016. The lively, fast-paced, west end Milagro is located in the trendy West Queen West neighbourhood.
We offer traditional dishes from all culinary regions of Mexico. Our chefs and cocineros prepare our foods using only classic recipes and techniques as well as the freshest quality ingredients. An amazing selection of Tequila, Mezcal, wine, beer and cocktailsis the perfect complement to our delicious food.

Arturo Anhalt | FOUNDER & CHEF
Arturo was born and raised in Mexico City. He studied Hotel & Restaurant Management, then, went on to apprentice in the kitchens, floors, bars and back offices of restaurants and hotels for more than 25 years. He moved to Toronto in 1998 and opened Milagro Cantina on Mercer Street with his brother Andrés (who now lives and works in Mexico City) in the summer of 2006.
Arturo is a fervent admirer and staunch promoter of traditional Mexican cuisine, his culture, the amazing foods and unique spirits he enjoyed while growing up and traveling in Mexico. He works tirelessly to share distinctive, authentic Mexican dining experiences with all the guests that visit the Cantinas.
Barjinder Bains | EXECUTIVE CHEF
Bains, as we call him, was born in a small village in Punjab, India. Although he never thought of being in the food industry permanently, he found his calling immediately upon taking a cook position in Milagro Cantina on Mercer St. in 2006.
After years of hard work, always with a smile on his face, he learned and mastered the techniques of traditional Mexican cuisine and became our Executive Chef.
Katie Nicholson | DIRECTOR OF HOSPITALITY AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Katie, a native of Ontario, majored in Latin American studies at University. After living abroad across Latin America and becoming fluent in Spanish, she joined Milagro Queen in 2009 to explore her passion for Mexican cuisine and culture. Since then she has moved through the cantinas as a server, bartender, manager and bookkeeper.
Today, Katie is responsible for making sure that our front of house team is working hard, charming each and every guest with friendly and attentive service and recreating the warm environment typical of the traditional cantinas of Mexico. She also oversees Milagro’s Tequila, Mezcal, wine and spirits programs and coordinates functions and catered events.
Alexis Jacobo | CONTROLLER
Alexis is a true Jalapeño, from the city of Jalapa, in the coastal state Veracruz where he studied and obtained a B.B.A. He moved to Toronto in 2005 and for several years, he was a guest of Milagro enjoying the traditional food and cantina atmosphere. In 2010 he decided to approach his favourite Mexican restaurant looking for a change in his professional career.
Alexis has managed all of the Cantinas and today is responsible for the back of the house administrative work that, although it is not the glamorous side of the restaurant life, is what keeps the business side going. During the busy rush of a Saturday night, you might come across Alexis helping at one of the Cantina bars or serving one of our guests.
